Friday Fun and a Giveaway!

Happy Friday Friends!

Sorry I have not posted in a while, I have been very busy working on Baby C’s room. I have a million blog ideas to share and just not enough time to carry them all through to fruition! So, message me if you want to guest post!  We still have not come up with a name but we have finished building all the furniture! That is a huge accomplishment. Other than baby stuff … life has been pretty calm.

My usual Saturday night… (I won $7)

My mission to find Baby C a name…

Since, I have no new fitness information to report today, I wanted to share with you my new love of canvas prints.  AND A GIVEAWAY!!   A while back another amazing blogger shared her resource with me and they sent me a trial print for review. The site is called Easy Canvas Prints.

photos on canvas

I decided to use one of the pictures from our wedding and include the little one on the way as well.  If he was here already I would have definitely printed one of him.  I will say the process of ordering was easy and the site walks you through all the options. Even the novice computer user will find the process simple.

Here is the final product… notice Baby C’s picture in our canvas print is on the table too!

Easy Canvas Print

The end product was delivered quickly and packaged amazingly! I really do love it. I must admit that in this case ‘size does matter’ and I would go for the biggest one you can afford. The 8 x 10 that we received is amazing but we just didn’t have a place to fit it on the wall.  As a result I mounted it on a stand on one of our foyer tables. It really is cute and I highly recommend you check out their site.

Plus, they have generously offered to give away a FREE 8 x 10 print to one lucky winner. Just enter on the Rafflecopter giveaway below.  Ends 9/20.

Everyone who enters will also get a 60% off coupon for entering. (US mailing addresses only) It’s definitely worth it! You could even get one of your favorite race or workout accomplishment!

Have you ever bought a canvas print? Did you like it? Where did you put it in your house??

Mini Recap and FITBIT Guest Review!

Hello Fitkist Friends!

Not much to report on this side of the world… I have been getting much slower as the days go by but I have so much to do! I am running out of time it feels like. We are less than 8 weeks away from meeting our newest family member!! I am certainly anxious to meet him and I wonder everyday what his days are like and what he is thinking of my food and exercise choices. They say babies can taste what you eat and as such their food tastes are influenced. If this is the case, Baby C (yes, still no name) will love trail mix and Cocoa Krispies.  Also, I would like you to meet Petey, Baby C’s BFF I hope.  I love Petey and I can not thank Lindsay enough for getting it for me him.

Fisher Price Glow Seashorse

Unfortunately, I do not have any new fitness updates, although; I have been trying to incorporate this video into my life:

Prenatal Workout Video

What to Expect When You Are Expecting – The Workout DVD (about $10)

It is a great little DVD but with all the cleaning, prepping, planning, crying and trying-to-sleep I have been doing I just don’t seem to find the time. Mary over at Food and Fun on the Run says you should make an appointment to workout. I need to start doing this, especially now when its so EASY to say “eh, I am pregnant I don’t need to workout.” (PS. Let’s congratulate her – she’s expecting too!)  Click here for Mary’s information on getting the most out of your workout.

So since I have no real Fitkist news, as a bonus for all the readers, my friend Olivia generously offered to write-up a review on her newest fitness gadget, the Fitbit Flex. This is just one of many fitness trackers out there aimed at helping users track and modify their activity and sleep patterns. She really seems to like it so far.  The average price is $99.95 and this is the version you wear on your wrist. Please check it out, we would love your comments or questions!

Fitbit Flex Review By Olivia:

So, I had been thinking of getting a fitness tracker for a while now, but there are so many choices out there I wasn’t sure which one to go with. After doing a little research on the Internet, I decided on the Fitbit Flex. I have been using it for about a week now and I have to say I am pretty impressed. In addition to just monitoring steps, you can log your calorie intake, set activity and weight loss goals and even set silent alarms. I also love that it syncs with my phone so I can see my progress immediately and track my calories on the go. It’s comfortable to wear and waterproof so you can keep it on when swimming or showering. My favorite Fitbit feature has to be the sleep tracker. Now I know why I am always so tired every day!

It’s not perfect of course. For example, I wish the band was a little easier to put on. I think Jawbone has it beat on that one. I also wish the phone app was better. I had a hard time adding friends on the app and it doesn’t let you view too much about your connections either other than an overall goal. You need to go to the dashboard online for a better view and more functionality.

I think what is most motivating about these type of products is the ability to connect and share activity with friends. It adds that competitive factor to it and helps keep you on track. So if you are deciding which brand to go with, take into consideration if any of your friends already have a certain brand. If not, try to convince them to get one with you. They won’t be sorry. All in all, it was the best price of all the brands I researched and in my opinion was worth the money I spent on it. I highly recommend this product.

Olivia is amazing when it comes to new technology and she really gives an honest and well researched review, she may have convinced me to get one of these things! This post was not sponsored.

If you decide on a Fitbit One there is a 30% off coupon code I found ACT20FB… you can use it here but I am not sure about the expiration of the promo code.  Happy Shopping if you choose!

Do you have a fitness tracker?  Which one and how do you like it?

Things I Have Learned This Week

It has been a hectic week to be certain.  I did not get to make a wonderfully thought out, intuitive and informative post as usual.  Ridiculous I know.  But, I have had so much to do, plan and think about my mind is fried.

When I look down at my list of “to-dos” that I make every Monday morning without fail, I see that I am still way behind.  I think that I have made a little progress nonetheless.  Here goes:

Living Without Artificial Sugar Sucks

Paula over at Eat: Watch: Run is on a kick where she is not consuming it for one month.  She should definitely get a crown or something equally awesome because I tried it this week and I only made it to Friday.  It’s the coffee man.  I need it!!! So, I tried something new today.  I tried Nectresse today and it was pretty good!  More granular than Splenda and it claims to be 100% natural.

But, this definitely does not keep in line with Paula’s idea of getting away from the artificial stuff.  Her reasons include: “artificial sweetener leaches calcium from your bones and depletes minerals in your body, it makes you crave more sugar, it makes your glycemic index go way up.”  Obviously, clean eating is the best option but guess I can’t do it.  Truth be told – being on a low carb diet requires me to get a little sweetness from the artificial beasts.

Made from: Erythritol, Sugar, Monk Fruit, Molasses and its calorie free.

Men Definitely Workout Differently Than Women

Rob and I went to workout together with a trainer this week.  We are trying to get in some good shape for the big engagement party.  I was excited and nervous.   Excited because I love having a trainer, they are motivating, smart and very encouraging.  Also, they make it impossible for you to deny how fat and out of shape you are.

I was nervous because the trainer was a guy (my first ever) and he is my cousin’s boyfriend.  I can guarantee everyone in my family knows how chubby I am now.  Not, that I care – they obviously can see me.  🙂  But, what I learned is that men look at training differently because they focus on bulking up and gaining major muscle mass through heavy lifting.  The only bulking up I want to do is in my wallet and the heavy lifting is for shopping bags only.    Yes, these are counter-productive goals but that is my life in a nutshell.

Oh yeah boys smell gross when working out.  Yuck.

Men Women

Why yes, Rob and I look just like this when working out. Thank you for asking.

Losing Weight Is Hard

Drumroll –  I lost 1.2 pounds in January.  Boo!! I am about 8.8 short of my goals. I want to lose between 12-10 lbs per month.  I am back on track this month.  I promise to report back March 1!

Senioritis Is Real

I am counting down the days until school is complete.  I am not sure why the program requires the most labor intensive classes at the end.  But, at this point who cares.   Three good months and I will on my way to getting that FSU Alumni license plate cover I have dreamed about since 2000.  I have about 100+ pages to read about IT and Insurance.  Can you believe that I don’t want to do this?  I didn’t think so.

I Love Pinterest

I have a great love affair with Pinterest and I am sharing it with you now.  I made my Mom sign up too because I know she will be a great pinner.   My biggest problem with Pinterest is that I pin too many treats and don’t attempt all the dang workouts I pin.  If you want to follow me, you should probably do it,  I like my pins.  Here are my most popular pins this week:

PicMonkey Collage

Ok, truth be told the flip-flops from Express and that ring are not pins.  Both should be though, the flops are wedding white and that is my new “workout ring.”  My workout ring is what I wear when I am doing things, like working out, that might damage my actual ring.  It is similar to mine but about 3 carats bigger.  🙂

What did you learn this week?

Also, no one has claimed that Glow Run medal yet.   If you want to try a virtual 5K of your own you should do it.  I will mail it to you (US only please).

Awesome Christmas Survey

I got this survey from The Hungry Runner Girl, check out her responses here.

1.  Favorite Christmas Album/CD/Song?

Jiggity Jig… I can hear it now the Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey.  Hee Haw Hee Haw.  It really always makes you smile when you hear it.  Listen to it on iTunes and you’ll love it too!

2.  Run on Christmas morning or take the day off?

I won’t work out or run on Christmas morning because that is when my family opens presents.  There is never time that day!  But, you’ll certainly find me on Boxing Day running a few laps to work off the holiday food.

3.  What do you usually eat on Christmas morning?

Garlic Pork.   Let’s be clear here, I don’t love porkchops or ham or any other piggie products but I love Christmas morning Garlic Pork.  It takes my mom several days to brine and season the meat before it is broiled up with peppers and thyme.  I don’t have a photo but believe me its awesome.  We also have breakfast foods like eggs, toast etc but the Garlic Pork is tradition.

Oh yeah, we take a shot of gin too sans the lime and ice.  😉

4.  Favorite holiday or Christmas tradition?

Refer to question 3.  Yum!

5.  Real tree, fake tree or no tree?

Ah, the old foes are back once more with the traditionalists fighting to chop trees down across the country and the practicalists getting Christmas done. I am so artificial!  Meaning I like an artificial tree…  I have  I finally got Rob to agree to the fakey this year.  He is Team Real of course.  We don’t agree on anything really.  But, he agreed we could buy a fake tree this year just so he would not have to hang lights.  I also am against real tree since the “Great Fall Over of 2011”

Maybe next year we will go really fake with this bottle tree.

6.  Christmas pajamas… yay or nay?

Nay – I’d rather have some cute pink Vicki’s that I can wear all year-long.

7.  Where do you spend the holidays?  Your own house, your parents’ house, extended family, in-laws, friends?

Damn, I am over committed – the answer is D. All of the above.

8.  Food that you always have during the holiday season?  Favorite Christmas food/treat?

Again, refer to question 3 (I really wish you could try it).  I always try to make a new Christmas treat every year.  This year I am making frosted sugar cookie bars (pics to follow) and puppy chow (pics to follow).

9. Open presents all at once or take turns?  Stockings… yes or no?

Free for all with stockings!  We are done in about one hour.  There are 12 of us now!  But, it really is great fun!

10.  Favorite Christmas(ish) movie?

I have to admit I love them all equally.  Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, Holiday Inn, White Christmas, Elf etc.  Who doesn’t love a Christmas movie?  Shockingly enough I OWN both of these movies but have never seen either one:  It’s A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street.

I actually stayed up past midnight to watch Santa Baby the other night.

Santa Baby

I mean really Melissa?  Hey, give me a break its by the same director as City Slickers… ooooo

The ABC Family Christmas Moviethon is pretty cheesy but pretty awesome.

11.  Favorite Christmas Present Ever? ( I added one)

I wish I could say it was something cool like a puppy or jewels but I have to admit my favorite present to date has been my Chi Flat Iron.  If you have (curly) hair, it is a necessary part of your beauty tool cache.   I could not live have straight hair without it.

Blogger Ornament Swap

So about a month ago I mentioned that I signed up for a blogger ornament swap – Candidly Clyde’s Ornament Swap to be exact.  Each person was paired up with another blogger or reader to exchange ornaments.  You were supposed to read their blog and/or social media and pick an ornament you thought would be representative of them.   I love ornaments and I am so glad I signed up because I got to make a new friend in Ashlie over at A Classy Occasion.  She runs a very fancy blog that discusses everything from wedding details to fashion to everyday life and she has fabulous taste!  My kind of girl for sure.  I ended up getting her a glittery, black chandelier with clear stones hanging from it.  I thought represented her blog so well and so much better than one I would be able to make.  You can see a picture of the ornament and read about her swap experience here.

Ashlie made my ornament and it is perfect because it is the first “branded item” from Fitkist!  I absolutely love it.

See the journey of opening the box below.

Brown Paper Packages Are The Best!

The Suspense!

 Sweet no?

The picture I took does it no justice because the glue was not set yet.  But, it is full of a pound of glitter and it sports the Fitkist logo – Lips and all!!

  • Have you ever participated in an ornament swap?  What’d you get?

Bonus Recipe Time!

Well, I have been on a Meatless Monday kick and strapped for time too.  The holidays from October to December are stressful and time-consuming.  Yeesh!   Rob and I are trying to do better about less fried foods and less red meat.  More for health reasons than for weight loss.  Well, when you are looking for a meatless dish that is super easy and super fast try this one.  It really is delicious and the only real effort is opening the can and stirring!

Can Opener Veggie Chili

Quick Can Opener Veggie Chili Recipe

(Sorry I don’t have any fancy widgets for you to print it from – save paper and Pin it then read it from your phone – that’s what I do!)

1 can of Kidney Beans, 15.5 oz

1 can of Pinto Beans, 15.5 oz

1 can of Southwestern Style Corn, 11 oz

1 can of Rotel Original, 10 oz

1 can of Tomato Sauce, 15 oz

1 packet of chili seasoning (hot, med, or mild – you choose!)  I likey spicy!

Open cans then drain beans and corn well.   Pour Tomato Sauce and Rotel in large pot on medium heat.  Stir in Chili Seasoning Packet until well combined.   Add remaining ingredients and simmer for about 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated through and its bubbly and delicious.

Then go to town adding, cheese, sour cream, chives etc.  I served ours over whole grain pasta shells.  It was warm and filling and best of all easy!  Of course, please add different beans or more corn but this way came out pretty awesome.  These steamy pictures are a chili love affair.  Hungry??

Ready To Run (I think)

Oh no!  Freak out mode is in full effect!  I am allegedly ruwarling a half marathon on Sunday!  What is ruwarling? Run/Walk/Crawl.  I have a feeling this is how this will go.  Either way if I finish I will be SOOO proud of myself and thankful to my loving boyfriend for being so supportive and listening to me moan and cry about it since I signed up in August.  No one else in my family really cares that I am doing it.  They have no idea really of how hard this is.

Really what was in my head at the time?  I thought maybe I would be faster, skinnier, sleeker, and an overall bad ass by now.  But, as is typical, my training was less than perfect.  So, I am still my same sized-slow-self.

But, last night I got my stuff together.

  • Armpocket: Ipod, Phone, Gu Chomps, Earbuds
  • Sunscreen – When I ran on Saturday I got a little sunkist, so I am trying to avoid that on Sunday.
  • GPS Watch
  • Compression Pants
  • Run Tampa Official Half Shirt
  • UA Sports Bra
  • Socks/Shoes
  • The Official Throw Away Shirt – This is so I can stay warm at 5AM and throw it away before/during the race.  I sliced that shirt right down the front so it will not interfere with my arm candy or outfit during pictures.  Smart no?  DIY Throw Away Shirt How To:  1.  Get Old Shirt.  2. Use Scissors To Cut Line Down Front.  3.  Add A Sweet Logo With Pink Sharpie. Dunzo!
  • Things not pictured: Bib, Tissues, Car Keys, Frightened Look On My Face.

So, fellow reader-runners what am I missing?

Oh, One Another Thing That Happened This Week…

Move over Flat Stanley, Meet Ross.

For those of you who follow my facebook you know about Ross but for those in blog world let me introduce you.  I found Ross at Ross (it is a discount store that sells clothes/home goods).  He is the creepiest creature I have ever seen.  He was all mixed in with Pumpkin Spice candles and harvest wreaths.  It’s like a pumpkin headed elf with a purple carrot nose, missing teeth and a wink to die for.  Charming.  Rob and I have adopted him and his brother.  His brother is un-named in the box still.  Now he moves all over the house: in the cupboard, the underwear drawer, the bathroom.  He’s the creepiest pet ever.

Meet Ross.
