Friday Fun and a Giveaway!

Happy Friday Friends!

Sorry I have not posted in a while, I have been very busy working on Baby C’s room. I have a million blog ideas to share and just not enough time to carry them all through to fruition! So, message me if you want to guest post!  We still have not come up with a name but we have finished building all the furniture! That is a huge accomplishment. Other than baby stuff … life has been pretty calm.

Since, I have no new fitness information to report today, I wanted to share with you my new love of canvas prints.  AND A GIVEAWAY!!   A while back another amazing blogger shared her resource with me and they sent me a trial print for review. The site is called Easy Canvas Prints.

I decided to use one of the pictures from our wedding and include the little one on the way as well.  If he was here already I would have definitely printed one of him.  I will say the process of ordering was easy and the site walks you through all the options. Even the novice computer user will find the process simple.

The end product was delivered quickly and packaged amazingly! I really do love it. I must admit that in this case ‘size does matter’ and I would go for the biggest one you can afford. The 8 x 10 that we received is amazing but we just didn’t have a place to fit it on the wall.  As a result I mounted it on a stand on one of our foyer tables. It really is cute and I highly recommend you check out their site.

What You Thought This Was Going To Be Easy? Hmmm.

I think the reason why personal trainers are so expensive is because they make you work so hard.  Otherwise, why would you go?  You want to FEEL like your hard earned bucks are going to a good cause.  In my case the cause is my booty, tummy, arms, legs – whole body basically.  Although, I must admit my eyeballs are in really good shape – perfectly skinny. 🙂  Anyway, this was our second co-ed PT session and we both look like maniacs afterwards.  My hair looks like it had electricity running through it basically.    I NEED these:  Fly Away Tamer Headbands From Lululemon   I saw them on the blog Running with the Sunrise and now I  NEED them.   However, I need to go to the store and try them on, my skull is part of “the cause” too.

During training, I realized again how out of shape I am and that I hate crawling on and off machines.  I admire the ladies and gents who do it gracefully and quickly.  I feel like a newborn baby horse with too many legs and arms or something.

animals,foals,hoofs,horses,mammals,natureBUT, our trainer is really professional and very encouraging, so I think we are doing the right thing.  It is expensive for us both to do it concurrently,  so I may have to differ Rob to the PT solo.  He really likes it and is doing very good for a first time PT client.  We worked on all the overall body yesterday but with an emphasis on legs.  Legs are the best because they are such a huge muscle group the burn lots and lots of calories!  We did squats, lunges and tons of machines.  It was definitely a work out!

One of the funniest things our trainer said yesterday, “Friends don’t let friends miss leg day.”  And, this is so true.  My running coach Mary said the same thing, she thinks training helps with the running which is my ultimate goal.  We did planks yesterday and I still can’t check that 60 second plank off the Fitkist fitness bucket list.  I am sore today but not in pain.  Bring on Thursday!

Finally, we only have one week until Valentine’s Day!  I love love.  What can I say?  My goal this week is to work on doing a couple of these exercises below daily in order to maintain my current strength training and keep up with the cardio (and of course kick some lbs to the curb).  These are all moves I am familiar with so I am not worried about doing them.  Obviously, if you are going to try any of these please do so at your own risk, speed, weight, etc. I am just posting these to help remind me what my choices are and maybe give you a little inspiration.  To me the jumping jacks are the worst.  They are like in jelly shoes in that you remember you loved them in your childhood but now realize how horrible they are.  My favorite are standing side crunches – Turbo-jam style.  If you do them right you’ll feel it tomorrow.

Valentine's Day

I must say that we are having an unconventional Valentine’s date that will not require a dress.  We are going to a hockey game so I will be wearing jeans but its still nice to fit in the skinny ones when needed!

Good news is that I lost four pounds too.  Every little bit helps.

Winning – Training – Engaging

WINNING

No, I am NOT Charlie Sheen.  I actually won a free entry into a 5K off of Active.com.  I have been trying for years and I finally won!  I won an entry to race in the  Wrucha’s 5K Run at Gasden Park.  The value was $30 and I was so excited.  The bad part it was on a Sunday morning in South, South, South Tampa.

Rob and I had to attend a church meeting that day so I knew I would not have time to drive to the race, go home and change and make it on time.  So, I decided to post the bib up on Run Tampa and it was gone in an instant.  Ever better it went to someone who is awesome and beautiful and a Run Tampa member and I did not even know it!  Her name is also Melissa – which is cool!!  Melissa was part of my Color Run team because she is friends with my friend Brandi.  Small world…

She made it to the race and finished and looked great doing it.  I looked for her time but it was not posted.  Maybe she will share with us… (hint, hint)  She also ran in a Jack Daniels hat which further increases my fondness for her.

TRAINING

I have finally started training with my new training plan!  This week I have been focusing on getting back into the groove.  Zumba and running and walking oh my!  I have been adding more veggies daily and have also been focusing on trying to get more sleep.  I usually stay up late doing homework  or reading and then fall asleep with a book on my face.  I need my ZZZZs.

Another thing I have been doing is putting lemons in my water.  After doing a little Pinterest research I am finding that lemon water is great for weight loss.  Pinterest is a reliable source right? Well either way here the stuff I have learned..

Lemons, specifically lemon juice,  is good for digestion, boosting your immune system through Vitamin C, possibly anticarcinogenic, high in potassium, antibacterial (which I am all about), antiseptic, and the list goes on!

It’s refreshing and its supposed to be very good for your liver.  It has detoxifying properties which I really need!  I found this “outfit” on Polyvore – cracks me up every time.Liver Hater

I plan to keep you posted on weight loss and the training as it comes along.  I am headed to Gasparilla for the 15K in late February so I am super nervous: my goals are to finish and beat my half pace of 16:36.  Both of which Mary is helping me do with the excellent training plan.  If you don’t know Mary find her inspirational, awesomeness here.

Lastly Rob and I are working on a playlist for the DJ at the engagement party and it is tougher than you think.  I was trying to pick songs that are lovey dovey, familiar and fun. The list below is what I am starting with but editing is guaranteed.  The are in no particular order either.

No haters please but I certainly welcome your input!  If I am missing something please tell me and if you hate one keep that to yourself.  We have an eclectic family so we have to play all kinds of music.  I really need some new ones for the Island portion. Refresh and Renew + Exciting News

Sorry for my absence, unlike many of my other blogger friends the Christmas holiday is a time when I take a break from my computer and relax.  I hope you missed me.

And although, we are only seven days into 2013, I already feel behind as I have not posted my New Year’s Resolutions for 2013.  I think its important to keep myself accountable.   So, I am going to do it.  Better late than never right?

Wikipedia defines it this way: A New Year’s resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit.  The most important part of this is the word commitment.  We really need to commit to making a change if we are going to form it into a habit.   Truth be told I only achieved 29% of my resolutions from 2012.  So, I know I will have to really try to get closer to achieving them all in 2013. But, instead of resolutions I like to call them goals.  They are in no particular order and not all of them involve fitness.

My 2013 Goals:

  1. Lose Weight – This is so I can get healthy and run faster.  I will be documenting this extensively on the blog this year.
  2. Pay Down Some Debt and Save Money– This is so I can save for the future – who knows what each day will bring.
  3. Attend Church More – To get closer to God and be more humble and more thankful.
  4. Log 600 Miles!! – I only got to 324 last year so it is going to take a lot of effort to nearly double that number.
  5. Achieve a new 5K PR – Currently it stands at 41:31, which is pretty crappy for my age group.
  6. Run a 10K or 15K – I am considering Gasparilla but we shall see how this month goes.
  7. Read one book a week. My new Kindle should aid in this one.
  8. Graduate from FSU!  (May 2013 here I come!)
  9. Volunteer for 16 hours.  I hope to do this by becoming involved in the Women’s Council at my church.  I think it is the right thing to do to give back to the community.  I also want to volunteer for one race to help pass out water or medals or anything.  Races can never happen without volunteers!
  10. Visit the Rays in a new stadium!  Maybe Miami or Atlanta or LA!

**THE EXCITING NEWS**

On Christmas day, I am excited to tell you that Rob proposed to me!  We are getting married!  He hung the ring in the tree and wrote a cute poem and everything.   It was very sweet.   This makes all my goals for 2013 all the more important.  I must succeed so I can wear the most perfect dress for me!

A Hard Day To Remember

My friends, there is not much to say except we all have to stick together when tragedy strikes.  Nothing I post today will compare to this story.   No recipe, run discussion or workout will seem right.   We should all focus on praying for those we lost and hope that talking about this will raise awareness about mental illness, security and hoping that those people who are suffering get help.  Never be afraid to ask for help.  There are people who care still left here.  ASK!!

Bloggers please share this National Blogger Remembrance Picture and please leave your comments and well wishes.  I am praying hard for all those families in true pain today.  My troubles seem so insignificant now.

My First Half Marathon Part 2

So much to talk about and so little time!  Thanksbirth week is sneaking snuck up on me! I had plans all day and all night the last three days.

But, I would not be a good little blogger without doing a race recap on my biggest fitness accomplishment of the year!  I finished my first ever half marathon this last week.

As a side note,  I want to be a part of the movement to change the name to Pikermis to denote that people who finish this distance are important on their own.  “13.1 miles should not be considered half of anything!”  Attacking the elusive marathon may not be for everyone.  I can almost guarantee that it is not for me.  (Unless I hit Powerball and dedicate my life to training which is doubtful because if I do hit Powerball running a marathon will be WAY down on the to do!)  Pikermi is the town in Greece that is halfway between the two towns that started the whole marathon phenom: Athens and Marathon.  Check out this to read more!

Back to my race – below is the route I went.  I must admit that it was a lot of fun, the route was scenic and full of spectators on almost every mile.

The the morning was cold and the day was cool and overcast for the entire race.  One of my only regrets was not rocking a long sleeve.  I think I would have been more comfortable along the way if I was a smidge warmer but then you would miss my Run Tampa shirt!  At 6:30 I posed with the girls from Run Tampa.  And!!!! Run Tampa came in third out of all the teams that raced on Sunday!  Rock on ladies.

I was so encouraged by them all during the race.  It was especially nice to get all the high fives and smiles from their water stop at mile 10.  They all did an amazing job!

I ran the first five miles with my new friend Erin.  She was a great motivator but lets face it I was holding her back so I told her to go on ahead and I would catch her at the finish.  She did great with a time of 3:14!

My only problem to report was around mile eight when I got a pain in my stomach but I think it was dehydration because I loaded up on water at the next stop and felt better.  I did not have any problems or injuries during the race except for two med station stops for tissues – I have runny nose what can I say.  Erin said the rest of you is running maybe your nose just wants to take part too!

We ran through Tropicana Field which was awesome.  I had to stop and take a picture.  Actually, a very kind woman saw me self-snapping and helped me out.

Around mile 12 I was ready to be done.  The running was getting less and less frequent and I was tired.  So what a boost when I saw a guy holding a sign that totally invigorated me.  I also forced him to let me borrow his sign and snap a photo!

At the very end, I ran the last quarter-mile and I am glad I did.  I pushed myself even at the end, even when I was tired.  And, that is why running is so awesome.  You get to do things you never though you could.  So, now I can say I did it and I won’t be afraid to try something else but I really feel that if you put your mind to something no matter who doubts you.  You can do it!

My First Half Marathon Part 1

I finished the Lady’s Speed Stick Women’s Half Marathon yesterday.  Today I will review the expo from Saturday and my race preparations and tomorrow I will post a race recap.

The expo was held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Hotel.   This is wonderful, old but beautiful hotel on the water and it is perfect for hosting a women’s health and fitness expo because the entire hotel is PINK!  Rob went with me to the expo and helped me take pictures.  I also met my new friend Erin there and we walked through the race packet pick-up and expo together.  I am glad we finally met up because we started the race together and she raced for the first five miles with me.  More to come on that tomorrow…

Pink Hotels Are Fun

There were many vendors there but not as many as I thought.  All the major names were there: Spi-Belt, Bondi Bands, Sweaty Bands, Newton Shoes, Fit-To-Run, Publix, Dr Scholls.  That is just to name a few.

And, as usual there were representatives from many different races there all trying to recruit you to sign up.  The medals are all so enticing!!!  Rock-N-Roll series (which I found out bought out Women’s Running Magazine and the Women’s Half Marathon series), Divas, and Daytona were representing.  One of my favorite booths was the run Disney booth.  I love all things Disney and I am adding a run Disney event to my goals because I need one of these medals.  They have a strict pace requirement of 15 minutes for all of their races.  I am not there yet but I plan to spend the later half of the season increasing speed and maybe do one more long run but not another half.  (Maybe next season!).

Yes, thank you I will have all of those.

My new favorite booth was Running Princess!  I love this place.  Everything is adorable and the quality is good for the price.  Some of the other booths had cute shirts but I am not buying a $60 t-shirt with three words on it.  Thanks anyway!  I bought a new tank for Zumba class and a new Headsweats Visor with a tiara embroidered on it.  It even has rhinestones.  I love it!

I really wanted to wear the visor but decided against it, following the rule that says don’t wear anything new on race day.  I believe you have to wear it in first!  Since I did not get a chance to use them in the 24 hours prior to the race I will be saving for something better.  Maybe my new class at Flava Fitness Studio??  I also bought a new Bondi Band.  I thought this was very fitting because everyone who is running at break neck speed looks really miserable.  I can honestly say I smiled most of my 13.1.  So that is my happy pace.

So, after we left the expo Rob and I went to the mall for lunch, I just had a turkey sandwich.  We did a little bit of shopping and we were home by the early afternoon.  I worked on homework and rested and then ate the rest of my turkey sandwich for dinner.  I was in bed by nine and asleep by ten.  I must have been nervous since I usually fall asleep in fifteen seconds.  My alarm was set for 3:30 and I was up and showered on time.  Stay tuned for the rest of my first half marathon experience coming soon…
